Irina was born beyond the Arctic Circle on the Kola Peninsula. She graduated from Tomsk State University in Siberia; earned a Master's Degree in Screenwriting and Production from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan; and completed a year-long course in photography at the Rodchenko Art School.
